Singer Katrina Ford has announced a new solo album titled To The Lighthouse, set for release on October 30 via Violin Films. The album follows her 2024 LP H.E.A.R.T. and was recorded with her partner and former bandmate Sean Antanaitis.
Ford, known for her powerful backing vocals on TV On The Radio's classic records and her work with bands like Love Life and Celebration, describes the new single "Winter Sun" as a "gauzy synthpop reverie." In a press release, she connected the song to a personal theme of seeking light. "It’s the morning after the Dark Night of the Soul, facing shadows for better days to come," Ford said.
Album Inspiration and Sound
The album is partly inspired by 1980s pop hits and movie soundtracks. The lead single "Winter Sun" is presented as a track meant for nighttime listening, evoking imagery of silk curtains fluttering in a breeze. Ford elaborated on the inspiration, mentioning the concept of a "zero shadow day" in the tropics. "Eerily, it makes everything look like it’s floating. I dreamt of being free from the shadow, my negative self forever following," she stated in the press release, which was reported by Stereogum.

Katrina Ford has been a notable figure in the indie music scene for over two decades. Her vocal contributions were a defining element on TV On The Radio's seminal album Return To Cookie Mountain. She first worked with TVOTR producer Dave Sitek on the 2002 album Here Is Night, Brothers, Here The Birds Burn by her art-punk band Love Life. Following Love Life, she formed the band Celebration and has collaborated with artists like UNKLE and Future Islands.
In recent years, Ford has focused on her solo career. The announcement of To The Lighthouse comes shortly after the release of the single "Transcending" last month. Both new songs are available to stream now.
