Beyoncé Releases B'Day 20th Anniversary Edition with Selena

Beyoncé has shared a new mashup combining the Spanish version of 'Irreplaceable' from her B'Day album with Selena Quintanilla's 1995 hit 'Como La Flor'. The track is part of the 20th anniversary edition of B'Day, released yesterday. This release follows the 2007 EP Irreemplazable, which included Spanish re-recordings and remixes from her sophomore album. The mashup was made possible through approval from Selena Quintanilla's estate.

The release comes amid a public dispute within Selena's family. Earlier this week, A.B. Quintanilla III, Selena's brother and former bandmate in Selena y Los Dinos, stated on social media that he had filed a lawsuit against his sister Suzette Quintanilla and their mother Marcella Quintanilla. He claimed the legal process began several months ago and referenced years of family tension. A.B. Also shared images suggesting lawyers had contacted his family for financial records.

Suzette Quintanilla, who currently manages Selena's estate, and Marcella Quintanilla have denied being served with any legal documents. In a joint statement, they said they have searched public records and found no lawsuit matching A.B.'s description. They rejected allegations of theft or misappropriation, stating Suzette has not taken money or property from any family member, the estate, or jointly owned businesses. They also denied any plans to sell Selena's personal belongings and said any discussion of company ownership interests is separate from such claims.

Marcella Quintanilla said she rarely addresses private family matters publicly but felt compelled to respond because false statements about her late husband, daughter, and family should not go unchallenged. The family emphasized they do not wish to litigate their history through social media but must correct the record when serious allegations are made without evidence.

They affirmed their love for A.B. But stated that loving someone does not require accepting false accusations. They pledged to protect Abraham's memory, Selena's legacy, and the truth.

Despite the family conflict, Beyoncé's mashup is a tribute to Selena's lasting influence on pop music. The artist has long cited Selena as an inspiration, and the connection was previously highlighted in a Netflix series. The new release renews attention to that legacy, even as the Quintanilla family navigates their disagreement.
