GDP Announces First Album in 14 Years

New Jersey artist Matthew Miller, who records as GDP, will release his first proper album in 14 years on October 23. The album, titled Cross Off Matthew, arrives via the label Run For Cover and is led by the single Island In The Sky.
Miller's bio states he has been releasing music under the GDP name for nearly two decades, though he stepped away from the spotlight for a period. In the late 2000s and early 2010s, he found a niche making skate-rap on the Run For Cover label during the emo revival. He then shifted focus to other projects, including film, photography, and publishing zines and books.
A Return to Rap
Matthew Miller's return to rapping began last year with a seven-song collaborative project called ENDOCRINE, made with Fatboi Sharif. Cross Off Matthew marks his first full-length GDP album since that 14-year hiatus. According to Stereogum, the lead single Island In The Sky showcases a blunt yet agile flow reminiscent of Aesop Rock over a volatile noise-rock backdrop.
The song packs numerous bars into its under-two-minute runtime. It concludes with the line: I used to want a Maybach/ A record deal's really just a loan you have to pay back. On Bandcamp, GDP describes the track as an ode to the Holland Tunnel, Route 280 and riding your skateboard as fast as it will go. A self-directed video accompanies the single.

Miller's Varied Career
During his time away from GDP, Miller worked on video projects under the alias George Douglas Peterson. This included documenting medical missions in vulnerable global regions. He also explored music outside of hip-hop, playing drums in the hardcore band Ankle Monitor and starting an electronic grindcore solo project called Orange Crystal.
Pre-orders for Cross Off Matthew are now available. The album's release brings Miller's long-running musical alias back to its original label after a decade and a half.
