Rage Against The Machine Declines Coachella 2027 Headlining Offer

Rage Against The Machine has declined an offer to headline Coachella 2027. This ends speculation about a festival return for the band, which has been inactive since its 2022 reunion tour was cut short by a serious injury to vocalist Zack de la Rocha. The rock group, which headlined Coachella's inaugural edition in 1999 and again in 2007, was also booked for the canceled 2020 event. They were not on the lineup when the festival returned in 2022.

Meanwhile, Dua Lipa, Tame Impala, and SZA are nearly confirmed as the headliners for the 2027 festival. Those bookings have not been officially confirmed. Dua Lipa has never performed at Coachella before. Her latest album, Radical Optimism, was released in 2024, with a new album expected in 2027. Tame Impala has a long history with the festival, having played four times previously. SZA has performed at Coachella twice.

Dua Lipa, Tame Impala, and SZA are expected to headline Coachella 2027. Tame Impala headlined the festival in 2019, having also performed in 2011, 2013, and 2015. SZA was in talks for the third headlining spot as early as September. The two artists previously collaborated on Justice's single 'Flower In A Hurricane'. Electronic producer Fred Again… is suggested to occupy the 'Returning to the Desert' slot on the event poster.

Other major acts decline or are considered for 2027

Several other major acts have reportedly declined or are considered unlikely for the 2027 headlining slots. BTS, which has never played Coachella before, also turned down an offer. Miley Cyrus similarly declined a Coachella offer. Legacy rock acts Oasis and Radiohead were considered but are described as pretty big reaches. All were previously rumored as potential headliners.

The festival dates and location are set. Coachella 2027 will take place over two weekends at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.

Rage Against The Machine has not played live since finishing their reunion tour in 2022. Zack de la Rocha sustained a serious Achilles tendon injury during that tour. He continued performing while primarily seated for the remainder of the tour's first leg before all subsequent dates were canceled. The vocalist gave a rare interview to Binaural in April 2024.
