My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade reissue has claimed the band's first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. The 20th-anniversary deluxe edition reached the top of the chart dated November 7, 2023, beating out Olivia Rodrigo's You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love for the position. The rock band's seminal album originally debuted and peaked at No. 2 upon its release in 2006.

The reissue, released on October 23, made a historic leap. It soared from No. 139 to No. 1, marking the biggest jump to the top spot since Taylor Swift's Fearless (Taylor's Version) in 2021. The band's journey from its first chart entry in June 2004 to this first No. 1 spanned 22 years and four months. The 20-year wait for the album itself to reach No. 1 sets a new record, surpassing the previous longest gap.

Reissue Details

The 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of The Black Parade drove its success with a wealth of new material and extensive physical formats. The reissue included three new songs and three new live renditions. It was made available in more than 20 physical versions across vinyl, CD, and cassette, including signed editions. Among these were 15 separate vinyl variants.

The strategy paid off in unit sales. The album earned 78,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending October 29, a 653% increase according to Luminate data. Of that total, 68,000 were pure album sales, with 42,000 coming from vinyl alone, marking the band's best-ever week for vinyl sales.

Market Context

The reissue's triumph came during a relatively quiet week for major new releases. Its performance stood out in a chart landscape dominated by legacy acts. Nine of the top ten albums on the November 7 Billboard 200 had been on the chart for at least 20 weeks.

The competition for the top spot was close. The final unit counts for the week illustrate the narrow margin of victory.

Tour and Legacy

The chart achievement coincides with the band's ongoing celebration of the album's legacy through its Long Live the Black Parade tour. The reunion tour, specifically tied to The Black Parade, kicked off in 2025 and ran for a year and a half with 47 shows across four continents. It included sold-out performances at the band's hometown stadium in New Jersey and two nights at London's Wembley Stadium. The tour capitalized on pent-up demand for the band, which had been on hiatus and has not released a new album since Barack Obama's first term.

The band continues to grow its global audience through international touring. Its community has persisted through nearly 25 years of activity, including the recent losses of engineer Doug McKean and drummer Bob Bryar. The tour wraps on November 22 in Indonesia.
