Lucy Dacus Reissues 'No Burden' for 10th Anniversary

Lucy Dacus has announced a 10th-anniversary reissue of her debut album, No Burden. The singer-songwriter shared the news today, marking the occasion by reclaiming her master recordings and releasing the previously unreleased song "No Thank You, I Love You, Goodbye."

Dacus revealed in a lengthy Instagram statement that she chose this specific date because she has regained ownership of the album's masters. The original No Burden was released in February 2016. She described the album as a document of her early, unpolished self, written while working various odd jobs to afford rent in Richmond.

The Journey of 'No Burden'

In her statement, Dacus reflected on the album's creation. She wrote the songs before considering herself a musician, jotting down lyrics on sticky notes during shifts as a box office attendant, yearbook photo editor, and waitress. The recording process was rushed, completed mostly live in a single day with just one take for some songs. Dacus admitted she recently listened to the album for the first time in years and blushed, noting she "hadn't found my voice" yet and sounded more distinctly Southern than she does now.

"I’m in the after, and No Burden was before," Dacus wrote, contrasting her current career with those early, unwatched days. She expressed profound gratitude to the fans who have listened since the beginning.

The Reissue and New Track

The reissue will feature new artwork and include "No Thank You, I Love You, Goodbye" as a bonus track. Dacus explained she wrote that song around the same time as the others on No Burden but it was never officially released, despite becoming a fan favorite. The track is now available to stream.

Festival Cover and Tribute

Separately, Dacus recently performed at the Bumbershoot Festival as a last-minute replacement for Japanese Breakfast, whose frontwoman Michelle Zauner is pregnant. During her set, Dacus paid tribute to Zauner by performing a cover of Japanese Breakfast's song "Paprika."

A video of that cover performance has been released alongside the new single. The dual releases celebrate a decade of Dacus's career and a significant milestone in her ownership of her own work.
