Helix Records and Payday Music Open London Hub

Helix Records and Payday Music Publishing have opened a new European hub in a central London townhouse. The 6,000-square-foot facility in Marylebone is designed as a long-term base for artist and songwriter development, according to the independent companies headquartered in New York.

The six-story Georgian building houses offices, recording studios, event and performance spaces, songwriting rooms, and areas for content creation. The recording facilities were developed in partnership with Miloco Studios.

Studio Facilities and Equipment

The building contains seven dedicated audio rooms. These include four recording studios and three songwriting suites.

All rooms are fitted with professional audio monitoring systems from several leading brands. The equipment list includes systems from ATC, Augspurger, PMC, and Genelec.

A Network of Creative Spaces

This London location expands the companies' existing network of event and creative spaces. Payday and Helix already operate similar venues in Los Angeles and New York.

Those US venues have previously hosted performances and events featuring acts like Louie Vega, DJ Premier, and San Holo. The new hub aims to replicate this creative environment in Europe.

Patrick Moxey, founder and CEO of both Helix Records and Payday Music, emphasized the philosophy behind the design. "We have always believed in putting artist and songwriter development at the heart of everything we do," Moxey said. He expressed a desire to recreate the vibe of legendary, artist-friendly companies from London's past.

"I remember coming to London in the '80s and '90s, when amazing, creator friendly companies like Island Records had offices that artists and songwriters actually wanted to work and hang out in," Moxey recalled. He suggested the modern music industry risks losing that close connection with talent.

Leadership and Background

The London hub's design and project management were led by two Payday Music executives. Bernadette Cruz, Director for Payday Music, and Alice Anselmetti, the company's General Manager, oversaw the project.

Moxey's career began with managing acts such as Gang Starr, Beenie Man, Jamiroquai, and Sly & Robbie. He founded the hip-hop label Payday Records in 1992.

That label released early work by major artists including Jay-Z, Jeru the Damaja, Mos Def, and J Dilla. The company has since evolved into a broader music group.

In 2022, Moxey launched a new label group structure. He signed a global strategic alliance with Warner Recorded Music covering both Helix and Payday Records. Global digital distribution for the labels is handled by ADA Worldwide, Warner's independent services division.

The current artist roster for Helix Records includes acts like AR/CO, Jamie Jones, Shimza, and Marshall. The new London hub is intended to support the development of these and future signings.

Moxey stated the companies are focused on growing in-person bonds with artists while also use digital tools. The studios, content rooms, and social media platforms at the new base are all part of this dual strategy. The opening represents a significant physical investment in the European market for the New York-based independent.
