Releases: Wolves In The Throne Room announce their 10th LP, Estuary, a concept album set in an apocalyptic future

Wolves In The Throne Room, veterans of the Pacific Northwest black metal scene, have announced their 10th LP, Estuary. This new concept album follows their 2023 EP, Crypt Of Ancestral Knowledge. According to frontman Nathan Weaver, Estuary is set 1000 years in the future, after the end of civilization, where survivors wander the haunted ruins of a world filled with mutant creatures and open portals.

Album Concept

The album's concept is based on a post-apocalyptic world where wilderness has overcome the cities, and estuaries have become realms of power and magic. Nathan Weaver describes the estuaries as key nexus points where magic has taken on physical form, and spirits, both good and evil, walk the earth. This world-building is the foundation of the album's narrative, exploring themes of survival and the struggle between good and evil.

Production and Tour

Wolves In The Throne Room produced Estuary themselves, mostly at their own Owl Lodge studio in Olympia, Washington. Touring bassist Galen Baudhuin plays on the LP, which features a mix of heavy, mystical soundscapes. The band has also announced a tour to support the album, although dates have not been released yet.

Tracklist and Release

The tracklist for Estuary is as follows:

Track NumberTrack Title
01Estuary
02Knights Of Tiamat
03Foretold In Reflections
04The Orca Cliffs
05Ghosts Among The Obelisks
06Wretched Spirits, Land Of Light

Estuary is set to be released on October 23rd on Relapse, and is available for pre-order now. The lead single, Ghosts In The Obelisks, has been released, along with a video directed by Nathan Weaver. The video features imagery that is reminiscent of medieval times, but is actually set in a distant future where society has taken on a similar appearance.

Wolves In The Throne Room's new album, Estuary, promises to be a heavy and mystical listening experience, with a richly detailed concept and world-building. With its release on October 23rd, fans of the band and the black metal genre will have something to look forward to.
