Kelly Clarkson's public dispute over a $15 million animatronic bird at a Brooklyn store has escalated into threats and...

Kelly Clarkson visited the Art Of Play boutique in Brooklyn on a Saturday and inquired about purchasing a unique animatronic bird named Molly. The singer and talk show host later claimed an employee quoted a $15,000 price while refusing to discuss alternatives, an account the store firmly disputes.

Clarkson aired her disappointment on social media platform X, accusing an employee of giving her the 'Pretty Woman' treatment and suggesting she was looked down upon as if she could not afford the merchandise. Art Of Play co-owner Adam Rubin stated the visit lasted less than five minutes and that Clarkson was treated like any other customer during a busy period. He maintains the bird, Molly, is a one-of-a-kind piece permanently attached to the wall and was never for sale.

Store's $15 million valuation and safety concerns

In response to the controversy and the surge of public attention, Art Of Play officially set a price for Molly at $15 million. This represents an increase of one thousand times the $15,000 figure Clarkson cited. Adam Rubin, who is also a children's author, stated that Kelly Clarkson has put the store in danger through her actions. He described the fallout as 'social warfare' and expressed fear for the safety of his shopkeepers.

Rubin told New York magazine the situation has led to a paradoxical mix of outcomes. While the store has seen increased sales and foot traffic, it is simultaneously besieged by threatening messages, negative reviews, and harassment that also affects neighboring businesses. He stated that actual customers cannot currently reach the store due to the ongoing disruption.

Escalating harassment and public fallout

The public dispute has triggered intense harassment against the boutique. Clarkson's followers have inundated the store with hostile messages, phone calls, emails, and review-bombing campaigns. The hostility has spilled into the physical world, with protesters showing up at the store shouting accusations of racial profiling. The situation grew so disruptive that neighbors called the police due to sidewalk protests. Also, individuals who mentioned the store on social media or were filmed during protests have themselves been attacked or doxxed online.

The incident has divided online audiences, with some supporting Clarkson's account and others criticizing her decision to publicly identify a small business. Clarkson doubled down on her position regarding Molly the following day, challenging the store's explanation and insisting an employee had pointed to a price tag during their exchange. Security footage of the brief visit was later released by an investigative podcast, but it did not establish precisely what was said during the conversation, leaving the core disagreement unresolved.

A source close to Clarkson noted the singer is usually very private and that public drama of this nature is out of character for her. The source suggested Clarkson was so ticked off that she couldn't keep quiet about it, adding that everyone is surprised by how much the situation has escalated. Adam Rubin summarized the event as an insane misunderstanding. The store remains in a state of crisis, unable to serve regular customers due to the sustained harassment following Clarkson's public statements.
