Warner Chappell Co-Chair Carianne Marshall Exits
Carianne Marshall will leave her role as Co-Chair and COO of Warner Chappell Music at month's end as the publisher streamlines leadership.
Warner Music Group has announced that Carianne Marshall is exiting her role as Co-Chair and Chief Operating Officer of its publishing division, Warner Chappell Music. Her departure, effective at the end of this month, is part of a move to streamline the company's leadership structure.
Marshall will remain with the company through the end of the calendar year. CEO Guy Moot will become the sole chair of Warner Chappell Music, effective October 1.
Leadership Transition
Marshall joined the publisher in June 2018 and has co-led it alongside Moot since April 2019. In a media release cited by Music Business Worldwide, Warner Music Group stated the exit coincides with a streamlining of its leadership. Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl attributed significant growth to Marshall's tenure.
"Carianne has been instrumental in building Warner Chappell into the successful company it is today," Kyncl said. "She's helped drive exceptional results that have set our songwriters and our business up for long-lasting success."
Legacy and Achievements
Key achievements during Marshall's time include the introduction of Warner Chappell Music's Creative Services department. This division was designed to amplify commercial and creative opportunities for the publisher's songwriters.
In her own statement, Marshall reflected on her goals when starting the role with Moot. When Guy and I began this journey together, we wanted to build a songwriter-first home for the creative community, she said. Marshall stated she was proudest of the company's growth and the culture it fostered.
Guy Moot praised his departing colleague. Carianne has been an extraordinary partner and a fierce champion for our songwriters and our people over the past seven years, Moot said. He credited her with helping establish an operating foundation that sets the publisher apart.
Career Background
Before joining Warner Chappell, Carianne Marshall worked at the independent music publisher SONGS. She joined SONGS in 2006 and held roles including Partner, Head of Creative Services, and Head of Creative Licensing.
There, she helped build a roster of over 300 songwriters, featuring major names like Lorde, The Weeknd, Diplo, and DJ Mustard. Marshall served as the company's executive leader on the West Coast, overseeing a period of consistent double-digit revenue growth. Her responsibilities included managing creative licensing for placements in film, television, and other media, as well as developing the company's roster beyond top 40 artists.
She was named Chief Operating Officer at Warner Chappell Music in 2018 and elevated to the dual role of COO and Co-Chair alongside Moot in 2019. Robert Kyncl concluded the company's remarks by noting the team would build upon her foundation, thanking her for her dedication and impact.
