Olivia Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields Raises

Olivia Rodrigo's inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival raised $10 million for women's rights nonprofits last night in Irvine, CA. Melinda French Gates is doubling that total with a $10 million donation through her charity Pivotal.

At a Friday press conference, Rodrigo stated the participating artists and activists gave her hope amid what she called the current "regression of women's rights." The festival was held at Great Park under an extreme heat warning, with organizers implementing preparedness measures.

The Festival Experience

The event featured two stages with no overlapping sets. The walk path dubbed "Daisy Lane" displayed messages highlighting women's milestones over 130 years. A Philanthropy Village hosted booths for ten nonprofit partners, including Planned Parenthood and the National Women’s Law Center. Activations for Rodrigo's brand partners LEGO and Taco Bell were also present.

Celebrity attendees included Drew Barrymore, Rachel Zegler, Conan Gray, and Mike Shinoda. Although group KATSEYE could not perform due to a member's sprained ankle, three members made a surprise appearance to introduce the nonprofit Baby2Baby.

Artist Performances and Remarks

Mitski told the crowd about her easy decision to join the bill after a personal call from Rodrigo. "I feel like we should do this every year, right?" she added. Chappell Roan debuted a new hairstyle and playfully called out an unengaged attendee during her set.

Bikini Kill's Kathleen Hanna delivered pointed remarks during her performance. "This government hates us and wants us dead," she stated. "They don't give a shit about anybody's healthcare." She described the festival as a "gift"from Rodrigo. Hanna also recounted a story about her son meeting Rodrigo, who called Hanna one of her heroes, though her son was reportedly unimpressed."Rebel Girl,"Bikini Kill was joined by fellow riot grrrl band Emily’s Sassy Lime."serena joy." She was joined by three special guests.

Sarah McLachlan performed "Building A Mystery" and "Angel," the latter dedicated to Dolly Parton. Rodrigo said, "Without Lilith Fair, there would be no Daisy Chain." Alanis Morissette, a last-minute replacement for Karen O, duetted on "Ironic." Rodrigo has previously expressed deep connection to Morissette's album Jagged Little Pill.

Finally, Stevie Nicks closed the night with "Landslide," dancing with Rodrigo. Nicks said Rodrigo reminds her of herself at that age. "I'm somewhat awestruck that she could do all this because it's so hard," Nicks concluded. "Don't ever give that up and don't let anybody change you."

Rodrigo thanked the nonprofits and the crowd. "You made this happen," she said. She then announced, "I will see you next year!"
