Liars frontman Angus Andrew has announced the band's first new album in five years. The album, titled A Ban On Plastic Bag Bans, is set for release on March 5 via Mute.

According to a press release, the album's title references an actual Michigan law. Andrew, who moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan several years ago, became involved in a local fight to hold a packaging factory accountable for its atmospheric pollutants. He states the album has "more to do with the perception of things than modern pollution, how these things that can be a constant in your life become sort of ingrained and invisible."

Recording and Collaborators

Now residing back in his native Australia, Andrew recorded the LP between Australia and the United States. He was aided by recent collaborators and touring Liars members Laurence Pike on drums and Cameron Deyell on multiple instruments. The songs were developed through in-studio improvisations.

Lead Single and Video

The lead single "Ice Pick, Kalamazoo" is described as a skronky and angry piece. It incorporates field recordings captured in Kalamazoo. Andrew directed the accompanying music video himself, compiling it entirely from photos he took at a local No Kings protest.
